Plastic bag ban hearing set

BAR HARBOR — A ban on single-use plastic bags and polystyrene containers is being considered in Bar Harbor. A public hearing on the proposed ordinances, the same ones that were recently adopted in Southwest Harbor, is set for the Jan. 15 town council meeting.

Mount Desert Island High School freshmen Caroline Musson, Logan Wilbur, Charlotte Partin, and Ella Izenour presented the proposed ordinances to the town council Tuesday. The students have met with selectmen in all four towns.

The ordinances were approved in Southwest Harbor last month and are currently being considered in Mount Desert and Tremont.
