MOUNT DESERT — The MDI Photo Club will hold its annual member photography exhibit in the Mellon Room at the Northeast Harbor Library, from May 30 through June 29. An opening reception will be held on Friday, June 3, from 5-7 p.m.
All are welcome, and most of the photographers will be there to discuss their work. The photography is for sale with a portion of the proceeds going to support the programs of the library.
This year, the MDI Photo Club organized and sponsored a photo contest for MDI High School students. The winners of that contest will be announced at the reception, and their work will be hung in the members’ exhibit. “We hope that this contest will create additional interest in photography and in the teaching of photography” said club President Howie Motenko.
The MDI Photo Club is completing its third year with this annual exhibit. The club was founded by a group of local photographers on Mount Desert Island who shared a common interest. The club has grown every year and currently has 50 members. We are proud of the diversity of our membership, from beginning photographers using their cell phones to professionals. Every member has the opportunity to learn from other photographers and improve their skills.
The Photo Club meets monthly from September through May in addition to holding a monthly outing. The monthly meetings include a speaker, review of the monthly outing photos, a critique and an update of club business. Visit www.mdiphotoclub.org.
