ELLSWORTH — A high school basketball career milestone was reached by Mount Desert Island High School forward Kelsey Shaw who scored her 1,000th point when she sank a first quarter free throw in the Trojan’s final regular season game against the Ellsworth Eagles Wednesday night.

The 5-foot-10 senior, was named last week’s Big East Girl’s Player of the week, and became the seventh player in the history of MDI girls’ basketball program to reach the momentous 1000 point mark.

At the start of the game on Wednesday night, Shaw, who will play basketball for Stonehill College next year, needed just four points to join the exclusive high scorer club.

Play was paused Wednesday night so Shaw could be presented with the game ball by MDI Girls Varsity Coach Brent Barker.

Kelsey’s sister Hannah, also an MDI basketball standout, scored her 1000th point in January of 2014.

Shaw is the daughter of Norm and Amy Shaw of Bar Harbor.
