BAR HARBOR — Renee Kelly has been elected a director of The First and The First Bancorp Inc.
Bank President and CEO Tony C. McKim welcomed Kelly to the firm to add “her expertise and insight in economic development as we continue to assist and advise our customers in the Bangor region and in our other markets along the coast.
Kelly is the director of economic development initiatives for the University of Maine, where she has worked since 1997. In addition, she leads the university’s entrepreneurship and innovation support activities including the Foster Center for Student Innovation and the Innovation Engineering Institute, a collaboration to commercialize its Innovation Engineering curriculum with education institutions worldwide.
Kelly was a founding member of the leadership team for the Blackstone Accelerates Growth initiative in Maine, which recently transitioned to Maine Accelerates Growth.
Prior to joining the university, Kelly developed training products for Manpower of Connecticut, worked for a financial services start-up company in San Diego, Calif., and served as an aide to former U.S. Rep. Olympia J. Snowe. She earned degrees from Smith College and from the University of Maine. Kelly also serves on the boards of several economic development and service organizations, including serving the state as a trustee for the Maine Rural Development Authority and serving as the current board chair for the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce. She lives in Carmel with her husband and two sons.
