Island Explorer runs begin

BAR HARBOR — The Island Explorer bus system begins its 17th season next Tuesday, June 23. The free bus service carries passengers around Mount Desert Island and through Acadia National Park, including the section of the park on the Schoodic Peninsula.

All seven of the MDI routes connect at the Bar Harbor Village Green.

Last year, the buses carried just over 503,000 passengers for a 16-year total of nearly 5.5 million.

The Island Explorer runs through Oct. 12, but it runs on a reduced schedule after Sept. 1
