The building at 16 Mount Desert St. in Bar Harbor, home most recently to a gift shop and a restaurant called Project Social, was torn down Monday. The building was built in 1900. It has hosted many businesses over the years, including a silk screen factory, Jellison’s 5&10 and the Alternative Market. A new building will house two retail spaces, eight guest rooms, a hotel lobby, a year-round two-bedroom apartment and employee housing. ISLANDER PHOTO BY LIZ GRAVES
