As part of the renovation project at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church on Mount Desert Street, the attached rectory building on Ledgelawn was torn down this week. Father John Skehan received permission in March from the Design Review Board to demolish the three-story, 21-room rectory building and replace it with a “more efficient, smaller and more practical residence for the priest living there.” The church itself is listed with the town as a historic building, but the rectory was deemed “noncontributing” to that historic status. Architect Carla Haskell said the exterior of the new building will match the colors of the old. ISLANDER PHOTO BY LIZ GRAVES
