No one was injured when this late model mini-van erupted in flames near the top of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park around 4:30 p.m. Monday. The occupants, a couple from Michigan, escaped unharmed, but the vehicle was a total loss. The summit road was closed for about two hours while rangers dealt with the incident. As part of the renovation project at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church on Mount Desert Street, the attached rectory building on Ledgelawn was torn down this week. Father John Skehan received permission in March from the Design Review Board to demolish the three-story, 21-room rectory building and replace it with a “more efficient, smaller and more practical residence for the priest living there.” The church itself is listed with the town as a historic building, but the rectory was deemed “noncontributing” to that historic status.
