Women fly fishing

ELLSWORTH — Georges River Trout Unlimited will host a Downeast Chapter meeting Wednesday, April 17, at Pat’s Pizza in Ellsworth.

The business meeting will begin at 5 p.m. followed by conversation and a casual meal.

At 7 p.m. Evelyn King, founder of Maine Women Fly Fishers, will discuss the contributions women have made to fly fishing in Maine.

King, a registered Maine Guide and certified Casting Instructor, has been fly fishing since she was a teenager. She has volunteered for Maine Casting for Recovery retreats for over a decade in order to share her passion with others and encourage women to fly fish.

In 2014 she helped found Maine Women Flyfishers Group (MWFF). MWFF has over 600 members and holds events throughout the year that are free and open to all women in Maine.

Presentations given by experienced guides and instructors demonstrate fishing techniques, fly tying, casting and conservation.

King was selected as one of 50 Mainers leading Maine in 2018 by Maine Magazine for her volunteer work empowering Maine women to get outside and fish.
