BRUNSWICK — The Mount Desert Island YMCA Sharks swim team finished sixth of 24 teams at the Junior Olympic meet over the weekend at Bowdoin College.
The Sharks boys were in third place with a team score of 1107.5. The girls were sixth with 908 points. The combined team was in sixth place with 2015.5. They shaved a collective 2,278 seconds off personal best times at the meet.
Top point winners for the team were Colin Sullivan, who finished first in the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle and 200-yard individual medley, and J.J. Cistone, who won the 50-yard and 100-yard breaststroke. Both are in the boys’ 10-and-under group.
Brendan Graves took first in the 100-yard breaststroke and 50-yard butterfly, and was runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle and 50-yard breaststroke.
On the girls’ side, Peighton Skeate had top-eight finishes in nine of the 12 individual events in the 10-and-under age group, including two third-place finishes.
For the 11-12 girls, Lily James won the 50-yard breaststroke, was runner-up in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard individual medley, and placed in several other events. She also broke four team records.
