BAR HARBOR — Several Mount Desert Island High School athletes have been selected to The Portland Press Herald / Maine Sunday Telegram All-State teams.
Senior Ryan Bender was selected to the boys’ indoor track team. Bender placed first in the 200-meter (23.00) and the 400-meter (51.64) and took second in the 55-meter (6.71) at the New England championships.
Junior Lydia DaCorte qualified for the girls’ swimming team. DaCorte set a Class B meet record of 5:05.68 in winning the 500-yard freestyle for the third straight year. She also successfully defended her title in the 100-meter butterfly with the second-fastest time in the state (57.55).
For boys’ swimming, freshman Liam Sullivan won the 200-meter individual medley in 1:57:08 at the Class B state meet and the 100-meter breast stroke in 58:77. Sullivan also swam on the 200-meter medley and 400-meter free relays that finished in second place.
Senior Kelsey Shaw, selected for the girls’ basketball team, finished her high school career with 1,031 points. This season, she averaged 17.5 points, 11.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 4.0 steals.
