Trojans complete in O’Day qualifier

QUINCY, Mass. — The Mount Desert Island High School varsity sailing team placed seventh in the O’Day Qualifier, hosted Sunday by Milton Academy at Marina Bay.

MDI fielded five sailors in two teams. Skipper Alec Fisichella led Team A, with Joe Minotulo crewing in races one through six and Jacob Peabody crewing races seven through 10. Lucas Ingebritson skippered Team B with crew Nate Ingebritson.

“Winds were puffy out of the west in the morning at around 10 knots,” said head coach John Macauley. “The sun came out in the afternoon and winds picked up to 15 knots or so.”

The B rotation snagged one second-place finish early in the day. Both teams finished in the top half in four of 10 races.

The Trojans were among 10 teams competing and finished sandwiched between two other Maine teams, with Portland High School finishing sixth and Cape Elizabeth High School finishing eighth. Milton Academy finished in the top spot.

MDI’s next competition is a Sail Maine regatta at Yarmouth on Saturday, April 20.
