BAR HARBOR — The Mount Desert Island High School Trojans varsity baseball team destroyed the Ellsworth High School Eagles at home Tuesday, forcing the game to end by mercy rule in the fourth inning when the score hit 10-0.
In the first inning, MDI pitcher Dylan Collins walked one of Ellsworth’s players and allowed one hit, but ended the inning with a strikeout.
MDI did not score in their first at bat.
Ezra Johnson, Nick Stanley, Riley Swanson, Seth Young, Kyle Lamson, Geoffery Hanscom, Matt Lambert and Nick Soper rounded the bases in the second inning, giving MDI eight unanswered runs.
In the fourth inning, Young and Alden Fournier tried for home and succeeded, bringing the score to 10-0 and ending the game by mercy rule.
Ellsworth scored no runs.
The preliminary round of the playoffs is scheduled for June 7.
MDI 5 – John Bapst 2
MDI beat John Bapst High School of Bangor 5-2 on May 28 at the University of Maine in Orono.
Lamson scored in the top of the first, pushed to home plate by hits from Swanson, Jacob Mitchell and Fournier. John Bapst tied it up in the bottom of the first.
Johnson and Drew Shea scored in the second inning, and Lamson and Swanson both got on base.
Johnson scored again in the fourth, followed by a run from Fournier in the sixth.
John Bapst scored one final run in the seventh to notch the final score.
The Trojans got 12 hits, with John Bapst’s players hitting the ball 10 times.
The Trojans are scheduled to play against George Stevens Academy in Blue Hill in a scrimmage on June 2.
