BAR HARBOR — The Mount Desert Island High School boys’ basketball team finished off a four-game road stand last week with a road win against Old Town and a split with Caribou and Presque Isle in Aroostook County. The Trojans are 10-4 on the season and stand at third in Class B North, behind Caribou in first and undefeated Hermon in second.
Derek Collin and Drew Shea led the league in rebounds as of Jan. 19, with an average of 10.6 and 9.5 per game, respectively.
MDI 68 – Old Town 57
Against Old Town, MDI came back from a halftime deficit to earn a 68-57 win. Derek Collin scored 26 points for MDI, which got 16 from Brett Duley, 10 apiece from Steven Pierce and Drew Shea and six from Eli Parady.
Caribou 67 – MDI 55
On Friday, MDI got off a slow start against Caribou and couldn’t recover to fall to a 67-55 defeat. The Vikings outscored the Trojans 16-3 in the first quarter and cruised the rest of the way to seal the win.
Collin had 22 points against Caribou, and Steven Pierce added 11. The Trojans’ other scorers were Pierce with 11 points, Shea with 10 points, Duley with seven and Parady with five.
The loss puts the Trojans 1-1 with the Vikings on the season, after a buzzer-beater victory at home during winter break.
MDI 53 – PI 40
MDI, though, would rebound from the loss with a 53-40 win over Presque Isle (8-7). Collin scored a game-high 26 for the Trojans, who improved to 10-4 on the year with the win.
The Trojans were scheduled to host Hermon (14-0) on Wednesday, but that game was postponed to Thursday due to weather. After that they play on the road against Orono (9-6) at 7 p.m. Feb. 1, host Foxcroft for Senior Night at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, before playing on the road against Ellsworth in the regular season finale at that time next Thursday, Feb. 7.
