Tardy is 28th in region

NORTH SCITUATE, R.I. — Mount Desert Island High School cross-country runner Tia Tardy placed 21st out of 261 girls in the New England Cross-Country Championships held at Pontaganset High School here on Saturday.

Tardy finished the race in 18 minutes, 38.14 seconds. Abigail Hamilton of Yarmouth High School, who placed first ahead of Tardy in the state championships on Nov. 5, placed ninth overall in Rhode Island with a time of 18:23.20. Exeter, R.I., runner Jacqueline Gaughan finished first in 17:34.11.
