Swimmers crush Crusaders



BANGOR Mount Desert Island High School’s swim teams notched a victory over the John Bapst Crusaders in their final regular-season meet Tuesday at the Bangor YMCA.

The Trojan boys took first in all 12 events, and the girls were first in 10 of 12 swim events. Bapst is fielding a girls’ diving team, but MDI is not, so points from the 1-meter diving event all went to the Crusaders.

In the 200-yard medley relay, the Trojan team ‘B’ of Jacob Mitchell, Billy Kerley, Zeke Valleau and Lanvin Estacio finished first with a time of 1 minute, 52.25 seconds.

The MDI team ‘A’ of Liam Sullivan, Luiz Estacio, Tyler Willis and Cody Parker was second with 1:54.07.

Sam Mitchell topped the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:07.70, followed by Isaac Mains with 2:11.89.

In the 200-yard individual medley, Jacob Mitchell finished first with 2:25.79, Valleau was second with 2:27.90, and Lanvin Estacio was third with 2:44.76.

Kerley won in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.01 seconds. Jonathon Genrich was second with 27.28 seconds.

Sam Mitchell won in the 100-yard butterfly with his time of 1:08.86.

Valleau was first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:00.47 in a close race with teammate Chase McGee, who came in second at 1:00.59.

An MDI ‘D’ team won the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:48.51.

Mains won in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:09.86, and Jacob Mitchell was first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:13.98.

On the girls’ side, the Trojan team ‘A’ of Ruby Brown, Maddie Woodworth, Adria Horton and Eliza Schleif won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:05.11.

Horton took first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:16.60.

Schleif was first in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:34, followed by Mei Mei White in second with 2:45.25.

Brown was second in fierce competition in the 50-yard freestyle event with her time of 27.63 seconds. She, Ana Dunn of Bapst in third and MDI’s Horton in fourth all finished within two-tenths of a second of one another.

In the 100-yard butterfly, Schleif took first with a time of 1:08.94.

Anna Naggert took first place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:02.09 seconds.

The Trojan ‘A’ team of Woodworth, Horton, Brown and Schleif was first in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:50.48.

Samantha Jacobs was third in the 100-yard backstroke event in 1:20.97. Woodworth was on top in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:19.

The Trojans boys are set to compete in the PVC Championships at the University of Maine in Orono on Friday, Feb. 9, at 6:30 p.m.

The girls’ meet is set for Saturday, Feb. 10, at 4 p.m., also at UMO.
