BAR HARBOR — The Mount Desert Island High School swim teams defeated Brewer Friday evening at home. The boys’ team won the meet 105-22. The girls’ contest was closer, a 101-82 victory.
The strong Witches girls’ team won this matchup last year. MDI coach Tony DeMuro said Friday’s meet “was a good testing. There were some really good races.”
The Trojan girls ‘A’ team won the 200-yard medley relay with their time of 2:05.19. That team was Maria Saltysiak, Sadie Sullivan, Adria Horton and Daisy Granholm. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, ‘A’ team Granholm, Ruby Brown, Zoe Eason and Addy Smith finished first with 1:55.26.
MDI ‘A’ team Mei Mei White, Horton, Brown and Saltysiak finished second in the 400-yard freestyle relay with their time of 4:09.16.
In individual events, Brown was the winner in the 200-yard freestyle with her time of 2:09.42 and in the 100-yard freestyle with 1:00.40. Horton finished first in the 200-yard individual medley with 2:30.40. She also took first place in the 100-yard butterfly with 1:08.22.
Saltysiak won the 50-yard freestyle with 27.45 and the 100-yard backstroke with 1:08.01.
MDI took second and third place in the 500-yard freestyle. Smith was second with her time of 6:04.85 and Eason was third with 6:32.95. Smith was also runner-up in the 100-yard breaststroke.
The Trojan boys fielded three 200-yard medley relay teams. The ‘A’ team of Liam Sullivan, Joris Korstanje, Amos Price and Noah Lambert won the event with their time of 2:00.54. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, ‘B’ team Sullivan, Lambert, Zoom Wangleugon and Isaac Weaver won with a time of 1:49.69.
Isaac Mains won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:11.87 and Luiz Estacio was second with 2:18.60.
Price took first place in the 200-yard individual medley with his time of 2:19.68. Tyler Willis and Sam Schleif were second and third, respectively. Price also came out on top in the 100-yard freestyle, clocking 54.98 seconds in the event. Cody Parker and Jonathan Genrich finished second and third.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Weaver won with 24.51 seconds. Tyler Woodworth came in first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.15, half a second ahead of Ponce Saltysiak in second.
Willis was the winner of the 500-yard freestyle with his time of 5:41.21.
Zeke Valleau finished first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.02. Sullivan won the 100-yard breaststroke with 1:01.50.
Two well-balanced MDI boys’ 400-yard relay teams finished three-tenths of a second apart: ‘C’ team of Valleau, Price, Lambert and Woodworth won the even with their time of 4:03.55. ‘B’ team of Korstange, Parker, Mains and Sam Mitchell were second with 4:03.88.
The Trojans fielded three divers, all boys, in 1-meter diving competition. Woodworth had the high score with 123.8. Mitchell had a score of 119.8 and Parker had 90.2. The Brewer divers were all girls.
“Our team has been working harder than ever to get in shape, trying to improve each week so we can peak at the end of the season,” DeMuro said. “I’ve been impressed by the team’s work ethic and positive attitude so far this season. Hopefully we can maintain it for the next seven weeks!”
Next up, the team is set to host John Bapst Friday, Jan. 4 at 6 p.m.
