BAR HARBOR — The Mount Desert Island High School varsity volleyball team took down their archrival Ellsworth on Monday night.

A 3-0 victory over the Eagles improved the Class A 8th-ranked Trojan team to 6-6 on the season.

With a 3-1 win over Washington Academy on Wednesday, Oct. 7, the MDI team avenged an earlier loss to the Raiders.

Set scores against Washington Academy were 25-16, 25-16, 23-25, 25-18.

“I think we did a good job of keeping the momentum on our side throughout the match,” said Coach Corey Papadopoli. “The girls served tough with twice as many aces as errors and passed really well.”

Cassidy Parady of the Trojan girls’ team had 10 kills, six aces and 14 digs in the match. Grace Higgins had nine kills, three aces, one block and three digs, and Mackenzie Hanna had two kills, seven aces, 23 assists and 12 digs.

“Lots of digs gave us many second chance opportunities,” said Papadopoli. “We still have some work to do offensively, but they played great.”

The MDI varsity volleyball team is set to host Calais High School on Friday, Oct. 16, at 6:30 p.m.
