Track teams finish back



ORONO The Mount Desert Island High School girls’ track team placed fourth at Saturday’s league meet at the University of Maine Field House. The Trojan boys finished in fifth place.

Hampden Academy won the girls’ meet with 126.5 points, followed by Brewer High School with 110, Bangor with 77, MDI with 50, Mattanawcook Academy with 35.4, Foxcroft Academy with 16 and Central with 2.

Brewer topped the boys’ meet with 123 points, followed by Hampden Academy with 102, Bangor with 77, Foxcroft Academy with 71, MDI with 45 and Central with 15.

MDI senior Ryan Bender set a new high school facility record in the boys’ 400-meter dash with a first-place time of 51.26 seconds.

Bender also took second in the 55-meter dash with 6.79 seconds.

The Trojan team of Giovanni McKenzie, Chance Closson, Jose Chumbe and Josh Bloom was third in the 4×200-meter relay with a time of 1:41.59.

Bloom was fifth in the 55-meter hurdles event in 10.01 seconds. In the 1-mile run, freshman Thorin Smith placed eighth with 5:43.64.

Sophomore Chumbe was fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:12.02. Bloom took seventh with 2:14.41.

Junior McKenzie was 11th in the 200-meter dash in 26.52 seconds. Senior Evan Jeanotte was 13th with 26.55 seconds.

In the shot put, sophomore Croix Albee took third with a toss of 44 feet, 7 inches. Micah Hallett was seventh with a throw of 38 feet, 3.75 inches, Jeanotte was eighth with a toss of 38 feet, 2 inches. Jake Ritter was 10th with 35 feet, one-quarter inch.

Chumbe was third in the long jump with 17 feet, 8.75 inches, and freshman Deandre Reid was fifth with 16 feet, 11 inches. Bender was sixth in the long jump with a leap of 13 feet, 9 inches.

McKenzie was sixth in the triple jump with 34 feet, 8.50 inches.

On the girls’ side, the Trojan squad of Lily Turner, Allyson Bender, Adriana Novella and Ashley Anderson won the 4×200-meter relay in 1:55.53.

Anderson won the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:03.50. Anderson was also on top in the 200-meter dash with 27.14 seconds. Turner was sixth in 28.89 seconds, and Novella was eighth in 29.25.

Turner was fourth in the 55-meter dash at 8.10 seconds, followed by Novella at 8.18 seconds.

Senior Riley Mooers placed third in the shot put with a toss of 30 feet, 5.50 inches. Also in the top 10 from the Trojan squad were Dorothy LeMoine, fourth, at 30 feet, 4 inches; Mackenzie Hanna, fifth, at 29 feet, 2 inches; Delia Hallett, seventh, at 28 feet, three-quarters inch; Brigette Olearcek, eighth, at 27 feet, 7.75 inches; and Natasha Olearcek, ninth, at 27 feet, 7.50 inches.

The Trojan teams will travel to Orono once again for an indoor track meet at the University of Maine on Saturday, Jan. 30, at noon.
