ORONO — The Mount Desert Island High School indoor track team was led by sprinter Brandon Murphy for the second week running at its Jan. 19 miniature meet.
In the unscored event, Murphy won the 200-meter sprint in a time of 23.83, shaving more than two tenths of a second off his prior best time of 24.04. The next closest sprinter was Peter Manuel from Bangor High School with a time of 23:86.
Manuel finished just three one-hundredths of a second behind Murphy. The third place finisher, Ryan Wang, from Foxcroft Academy, was a full half second behind the two top competitors in the 200 meter event.
Murphy also placed third in the 55-meter dash in a time of 6.95.
Ezra Hallett, whose strongest event is shot put, threw beyond 40 feet for the first time, placing sixth with a distance of 40 feet and 9.75 inches.
Trevor Alley won that event for the Trojans, throwing a distance of 45 feet, 10.75 inches.
Chapin McFarland placed third with a throw of 43 feet, 1 inch.
Jordan Harris placed fourth in the boys’ two-mile run in a time of 10:38.38. Will Richard placed fifth in high jump, clearing 5 feet, 4 inches. Harris also placed seventh in the pole vault, clearing 9 feet, 6 inches.
The MDI girls’ indoor track team was led by Nora Hubbell, who placed third in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:40.57 and second in the two-mile event in a time of 12:09.58. Aleta Looker from Ellsworth High School placed first in the two-mile run in a time of 12:09.58.
MDI distance runner Caroline Driscoll placed fourth in the one-mile event in a time of 5:50.41. Adrienne Carmack from John Bapst Memorial High School placed first with a time of 5:37.16.
Emma Fernald placed seventh in triple jump with a distance of 28 feet, 10.25 inches. Madeline Cook placed eighth in shot put with a distance of 27 feet, 5.5 inches.
The MDI indoor track team is scheduled to compete at the University of Maine Field House in Orono on Jan. 26.
