BRUNSWICK — The Mount Desert Island High School indoor track relay team of Matt Hanna, Ryan Bender, Jordan Harris and Ralph Magnani took first place in both the 4×200-meter and 4×400-meter events Saturday at the Bowdoin relay meet. They ran the 4×200 with a time of 1:37.95 and the 4×400 in 3:39.10.
In team scores, the MDI boys finished eighth of 16 with 28 points. The Trojan girls finished 12th with 28 points.
“This meet is really about getting experience and building camaraderie,” Coach Brad Witham said. “We mix up some of the relay teams between sprinters and distance runners to give people who don’t often get to run together” some time together.
Aidan Robichaud-Ward finished 11th in the one-mile run with a time of 4:57.48. In the 3×1-mile relay, MDI ‘A’ team Stanley Grierson, Nick Reznik and Robichaud-Ward were eighth with 16:13.39. Josh Bloom, Giovanni Mackenzie, Noah Clark-Sigmon and Jose Chumbe were tenth in the 4-2-3-3 sprint medley with 2:56.60.
MDI throwers took a turn on the track in a sprint relay just for them. Evan Jeannotte, Micah Hallett, Luke Mitchell and Jake Ritter took seventh place in the 4×100-meter relay event with a time of 56.85.
In hurdles, MDI ‘A’ team Harris, Magnani and Hanna finished second in the 3×55-meter high hurdles with 26.5 seconds. For throwing and jumping events at this meet, a team’s top three performers in each event make up the team score. ‘A’ team triple jumpers put MDI in 11th in that event. MDI took ninth in shot put with 97 feet, 9 inches.
On the girls’ side, Caroline Driscoll finished third in the mile run with a time of 5:48.35. MDI throwers finished sixth in their 4×100-meter relay with 1:06.00. The team was Riley Mooers, Mackenzie Hanna, Paige Murphy and Delia Hallett. In the 4×200-meter relay, Mackenzie Hanna, Addie Beal, Ashley Anderson and Ava Drennan finished 14th with 2:07.25. In the girls’ 12-4-8-16 distance medley, Driscoll, Beal, Anderson and Drennan finished 8th with 15:53.83.
For Lady Trojan throwers, the ‘A’ team placed sixth in shot put with 71 feet, 11 inches. The ‘B’ team was 11th with 62 feet, 11 inches.
The team is set to return to southern Maine Saturday, Dec. 27, for the USM relay meet.
