BAR HARBOR — The Ellsworth Eagle boys won eight events and the Mount Desert Island Trojans seven at Friday’s six-team outdoor track meet.

But the depth of the Trojan squad — including a sweep of all six scoring places in the javelin throw — gave the Trojans a five-point edge in winning the boys’ team competition.

MDI finished with 154 points with Ellsworth garnering 149. Behind them were George Stevens Academy with 131, Washington Academy with 48, Sumner with 30 and Narraguagus with 19.

Seniors Dan Curts of Ellsworth and Baramee Janla of Sumner were double winners on Friday.

Curts, one of Maine’s top distance runners, raced to easy wins in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:14.27 and the 800-meter run with a time of 1:58.45.

Janla, a sprinter, prevailed in the 100-meter dash in 11.49 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 23.27 seconds.
