Boys 4th, girls 5th at PVCs



ORONO — The Mount Desert Island High School boys’ track team finished fourth of 11 teams at Monday’s PVC Championship meet at the University of Maine field house.

The Trojans girls placed fifth of 12 teams.

MDI senior Ryan Bender broke his own facility record, set earlier this season, in the 55-meter dash preliminaries with his time of 6.70 seconds. He won the event with a time of 6.72 seconds.

On the girls’ side, sophomore Ashley Anderson was named Outstanding Performer of the Meet.

Bender finished second in the 200-meter dash in 23.27 seconds and was out front in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.39 seconds. Sophomore Griffin Maristany placed sixth with a time of 56.40.

The MDI boys’ relay team of Giovanni McKenzie, Chance Closson, Jose Chumbe and Josh Bloom took third place in the 4×200-meter relay with a time of 1:42.17.

Sophomore Nick Reznick was seventh in the one-mile run with a time of 5.09.08. In the 800-meter run, Bloom took sixth in 2:09.64. Chumbe was ninth with a time of 2:12.28.

In the shot put, sophomore Croix Albee was second with a toss of 46 feet, 8.5 inches. Evan Jeanotte was fifth with a throw of 39 feet, 10.75 inches. Micah Hallett was sixth with 38 feet, 6.5 inches.

Chumbe was seventh in the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 10.25 inches. McKenzie was eighth in triple jump with 35 feet, 4 inches.

In the high jump, freshman Deandre Reid was fourth with a leap of 5 feet, 6 inches.

For the girls, the relay team of Lily Turner, Sydney Kachmar, Adriana Novella and Allyson Bender was third in the 4×200-meter relay with a time of 1:56.45.

Anderson won the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.60 seconds. Novella was sixth with a time of 7.96. Anderson was also out front in the 400-meter dash with her time of 1:02.70. Kachmar placed eighth in 1:09.64.

In the 200-meter dash, Anderson was second with a time of 26.65 seconds. Freshman Turner was eighth in 28.41 seconds. Novella was 11th with a time of 29.18 and Allyson Bender, 12th, in 29.30.

In shot put, sophomore Mackenzie Hanna was fifth with a throw of 31 feet, 1.75 inches. Senior Delia Hallett was sixth with a heave of 28 feet, 7.75 inches. Riley Mooers was seventh at 28 feet, 5.5 inches. Sophomore Dorothy LeMoine was eighth with a throw of 28 feet, 4 inches.

Next up is the state Class B meet. It is set for Saturday, Feb. 13, at noon at Bates College in Lewiston.
