Ellsworth girls, MDI boys top Eastern Maine standings

BANGOR — The 11-1 Ellsworth Eagle girls and the 12-0 Mount Desert Island Trojan boys are all but certain to enter post-season tennis play at the top of the Eastern Maine Class B standings.

The Trojan boys hold a nearly 40-point lead over number two Caribou, and the Eagle girls lead second place Camden Hills by more than 11 points.

In Class C, the 10-2 George Stevens Academy Eagles boys currently are ranked number one. But a win by number three Madawaska over number five Fort Kent likely would vault the Owls, who trail GSA by less than four points, into the top spot in the final standings.

Other teams likely headed for post-season play are the number seven 7-5 Ellsworth boys and the number six 9-3 MDI girls in Class B, and the number four 7-5 Deer Isle-Stonington Mariner boys, the eighth-ranked 4-8 Sumner Tiger boys and the number five 10-2 GSA Eagle girls in Class C.
