Trojan swimmers set pool records



BAR HARBOR — Leila Johnston and Lydia DaCorte of the Mount Desert Island High School swim team set pool records for the MDI YMCA Friday when the Trojans hosted Bangor High School. Johnston swam the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.81, and DaCorte logged a time of 5:21.02 in the 500-yard freestyle.

It’s always a fun meet when we swim against Bangor,” MDI Coach Tony DeMuro said. “The kids were fired up and swam great, a lot of energy and a lot of best times. The Bangor meet is a prelude to the championships for us and the team looks like we are set up for a strong finish. We just want to keep getting better every day.”

The Trojan boys lost to Bangor 110-76 in team scores, but many improved personal best times in their events. Hutchin Gerrish, Billy Kerley, Sam TeHennepe and Herbie Shaw were third in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:59.84.

Pierce DiMauro won the 200-yard freestyle with 1:53.79. Kristoph Naggert was third with 2:02.26. Gerrish was third in the 200-yard individual medley with 2:22.75. In a close race in the 50-yard freestyle, Kohl Shaw won with 24:34 seconds. Kerley was third with 25.37.

DiMauro was second in the 100-yard butterfly with 57.91 seconds. TeHennepe was third with 1:05.22. Kohl Shaw was third in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.99 seconds. Naggert was first in the 500-yard freestyle with 5:26.66.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of Kohl Shaw, Kerley, Naggert and DiMauro finished second with 1:38.15. Kerley was second in the 100-yard breaststroke with 1:12.38. Naggert, Kohl Shaw, Gerrish and DiMauro won the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:41.50.

Divers from both teams each performed five dives midway through the meet. Chelsea Schroeder came in second for the girls with 135.50. Will Greene was first for the boys with 270.50. Bryce DiMauro was fourth with 131.60, and Yanni Roguski was fifth with 87.50.

The MDI girls won handily in team scores, 112-68. Johnston, Ceileigh Weaver, DaCorte and Sydney Wright won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:58.66. Johnston won the 200-yard freestyle with 1:54.81, and Maddie Woodworth was third with 2:11.05.

DaCorte was first in the 200-yard individual medley with 2:15.79, and Aubrie Boyce was third with 2:39.24. Wright won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 27.34 seconds. Eliza Schleif was a close second with 27.41. Schleif won the 100-yard butterfly with 1:08.42, and Rachel Jacobs was third with 1:15.75.

Woodworth won the 100-yard freestyle with 58.12 seconds. Wright was third with 1:00.27. Behind DaCorte in the 500-yard freestyle, Annie Painter finished fourth with 6:29.35. Schleif, Woodworth, Weaver and DaCorte won the 200-yard freestyle relay with 1:47.44.

Johnston was first in the 100-yard backstroke with 1:00.01. Rebecca Gerrish was third with 1:12.05. Boyce won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:18.22, and Weaver was third with 1:20.45. Schleif, Wright, Woodworth and Johnston were first in the 400-yard freestyle relay with 3:52.23.

The Trojans are set to host Bapst on Friday at a 6 p.m. meet, their last before PVCs at Husson Feb. 6-7.
