Swimmers overpower Crusaders



BANGOR — Mount Desert Island High School’s swim teams notched a 242.2-109 victory over the John Bapst Crusaders in their final regular season meet held Friday, Jan. 29, at the Bangor YMCA.

The Trojan boys took first in nine of 12 events and scored a total of 121.2 to John Bapst’s 50. The MDI girls also had 121.2 points, to 59 for John Bapst.

In the 200-yard medley relay, the Trojan team ‘A’ of Lanvin Estacio, Pierce DiMauro, Jacob Mitchell and Chase McGee finished second with a time of 2:00.52.

The MDI team ‘B’ of Sam TeHennepe, Hutchin Gerrish, Yanni Roguski and Liam Sullivan was third with 2:00.64.

Sullivan topped the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:56.06, followed by Kristoph Naggert in 2:00.78 and Isaac Weaver in 2:12.79.

In the 200-yard individual medley, Mitchell finished first with 2:19.30, and McGee was third with 2:41.68.

Gerrish won in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.79 seconds.

In one-meter diving, Bryce DiMauro was on top with a total score of 203, followed by Roguski with 128.10 and TeHennepe with 106.90.

Sullivan won in the 100-yard butterfly with his time of 55.99 seconds.

TeHennepe was in second place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 57.13 seconds. Herbie Shaw followed him in 59.94 seconds.

Pierce DiMauro won the 500-yard freestyle event with 5:24.79. Gerrish was in second place with 5:38.09 and was followed by Mitchell with 5:47.38.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the Trojan ‘A’ team of Weaver, TeHennepe, Zeke Valleau and Naggert was first with 1:44.33.

Naggert won in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.42, and Shaw was third in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:13.

The Trojan ‘B’ team of Mitchell, McGee, Weaver and Gerrish took first in the 400-yard freestyle relay with 3:57.62. MDI’s Team ‘A’ of Sullivan, Roguski, Shaw and Pierce DiMauro was second with 3:58.48.

On the girls’ side, the Trojan team ‘A’ of Mary Ellen Sharp, Ceileigh Weaver, Aubrie Boyce and Anna Naggert was second with a time of 2:07.07.

Maddie Woodworth took first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:13.88. Eliza Schlief was in second place with 2:15.39, followed by Ellie McGee with 2:34.04.

Lydia DaCorte was first in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:20.38, followed by Avalon Kerley with 2:23.25.

Anna Naggert won the 50-yard freestyle event with her time of 28.58 seconds. Sharp was third with 29.47 seconds.

Chelsea Schroeder was on top in one-meter diving with a total score of 161.40.

In the 100-yard butterfly, Boyce took first with a time of 1:07.77. Schlief was second with 1:09.80, followed by Kirstin DiMauro with 1:20.33.

Kerley took first place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 59.56 seconds, and Sharp was third with 1:03.73.

Rachel Jacobs was second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:40.47, and Ellie McGee was third with 7:09.58.

The Trojan ‘A’ team of Schlief, Kerley, Woodworth and DaCorte was first in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:48.09.

DaCorte won the 100-yard backstroke event in 1:05.30, and Boyce was on top in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:16.10.

In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the Trojan ‘A’ team of Jacobs, Woodworth, Maggie Collins and Schlief was on top in 4:11.64.

The Trojans boys are set to compete in the PVC Championships at Husson University on Friday, Feb. 5, at 6 p.m.

The girls’ meet will be held at the University of Maine in Orono on Saturday, Feb. 6, at 2 p.m.
