Swimmers outpace Orono

BAR HARBOR — The Mount Desert Island High School boys’ and girls’ swim teams won decisively in a meet with the Orono Red Riots on Friday, Jan. 22.

The boys notched 136 points in team score to Orono’s 29. The MDI girls also had 136 points to 36 for Orono.

“There were some really good swims, and a lot of progress,” MDI Head Coach Tony DeMuro said. “It looks like we will be able to finish the season very strong.”

In the boys’ 200-yard medley relay, the MDI ‘B’ team of Hutchin Gerrish, Isaac Weaver, Zeke Valleau and Herbie Shaw finished first with a time of 1:57.97. The Trojan ‘A’ team of Pierce DiMauro, Kristoph Naggert, Sam TeHennepe and Lanvin Estacio was second with 1:58.25.

Valleau won in the 200-yard freestyle event with a time of 2:18.53. Chase McGee of MDI was second with 2:32.04, followed by Yanni Roguski with 2:33.09.

In the 200-yard individual medley, Naggert was on top with 2:14.37, followed by Gerrish with 2:18.90 and Weaver in 2:28.35.

Shaw won the 50-yard freestyle with his time of 26.43 seconds. Estacio was second with 29.07.

In the 1-meter diving, Bryce DiMauro was on top with a score of 181.90 points. Roguski was second with 99.75, followed by TeHennepe with 91.80.

Pierce DiMauro was second in the 100-yard butterfly with 59.96 seconds, followed by Jacob Mitchell in 1:01.63.

Liam Sullivan won in the 100-yard freestyle with 50.24 seconds. Shaw was second with 59.18, followed by Estacio with 1:05.37.

TeHennepe was on top in the 500-yard freestyle with 6:02.37, followed by Valleau with 6:04.39.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the Trojan ‘B’ team of Estacio, Sullivan, Roguski and Valleau was first with 1:47.77.

Sullivan won in the 100-yard backstroke with 59.65 seconds, and Mitchell was first in the 100-yard breaststroke.

In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the MDI ‘A’ team of TeHennepe, Roguski, Sullivan and Naggert placed first with 3:51.41. The Trojan ‘B’ team of Weaver, McGee, Pierce DiMauro and Mitchell was second with 4:01.57.

On the girls’ side, the MDI ‘A’ team of Avalon Kerley, Ceileigh Weaver, Aubrie Boyce and Anna Naggert was on top in the 200-yard medley relay with 2:06.75. The Trojan ‘B’ team of Lydia DaCorte, Rachel Jacobs, Eliza Schlief and Mary Ellen Sharp was second with a time of 2:07.21.

In the 200-yard freestyle, Schlief was first with 2:17.48,

Maddie Woodworth won the 200-yard individual medley with her time of 2:32.80, and Ceileigh Weaver was second with 2:42.29.

In the 50-yard freestyle event, DaCorte finished first with 25.45 seconds. Kerley was second in 26.38, followed by Boyce with 27.88.

Chelsea Schroeder won in the 1-meter diving with a total score of 161.30, and Ceileigh Weaver was second with 110.25.

DaCorte was first in the 100-yard freestyle with 55.38 seconds. Boyce finished second with 1:03.08, followed by Sharp with 1:05.39.

Bailey Cust took first in the 500-yard freestyle with 6:28.06, followed by Sammy Jacobs with 6:28.89.

The MDI ‘B’ team of Anna Naggert, Rachel Jacobs, Ellie McGee and Sharp was on top with a time of 2:00.05.

Kerley placed first in the 100-yard backstroke with 1:07.65, followed by Schlief with 1:13.38, and in the 100-yard breaststroke, Rachel Jacobs was on top with 1:11.72.

In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the MDI team ‘A’ of Sammy Jacobs, Bailey Cust, Woodworth and Kerley was first with 4:13.90, and the Trojan team ‘B’ of Ellie McGee, Ceileigh Weaver, Schlief and DaCorte was second with 4:14.54.

The next meet is set for Friday, Jan. 29, at 6 p.m. against John Bapst Memorial High School at the YMCA in Bangor.
