BANGOR — The Mount Desert Island swim team claimed another sweep Friday as it earned a pair of road wins over Brewer.
The MDI boys’ team won 11 of 12 events en route to a 140-26 victory over Brewer at Bangor Area YMCA. MDI also won eight of 12 in the girls’ meet to notch a 127-46 win over the Witches.
On the girls’ side, MDI claimed wins in all three relay events. The Trojans won the 200-yard medley relay in 2 minutes, 3.37 seconds (Callan Eason, Elle Yarborough, Maria Saltysiak, Denali Wagstaff), the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:53.37 (Wagstaff, Eason, Susanna Davis, Addy Smith) and the 400-yard freestyle in 4:13.73 (Davis, Eason, Saltysiak, Olivia Underwood).
Maria Saltysiak (100-yard butterfly, 1:04.62), Underwood (500-yard freestyle, 6:13.75) and Wagstaff (100-yard breaststroke, 1:17.03) had individual wins in addition to their relay successes. Fiona St. Germain (1-meter dive, 152.60) and Cecilia Saltysiak (50-yard freestyle, 26.82) also earned wins for the MDI girls.
For the MDI boys, Julian Walls, Brendan Graves, Jesse Lower and Sam York earned a win in the 200 medley relay (1:48.30). The Trojans also won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:46.02 (York, McCadden Morris, Liam McKernan, Oakley Bench) and the 400 freestyle relay in 3:52.77 (Walls, Lower, Alec Owen, Tucker James).
Graves (100 butterfly, 58.44; 200-yard freestyle, 1:59.97), Bench (1-meter dive, 112.85; 500 freestyle, 6:34.42) and Lower (100 breaststroke, 1:03.55; 200-yard individual medley, 2:10.12) won two events each for the MDI boys. The Trojans’ Sam York (50 freestyle, 24.22) and Sam Schleif (100-yard freestyle, 55.57) also earned event wins.
MDI divers also competed in the MDI Invitational on Saturday at the MDI YMCA. Bench won the boys’ six-dive competition with a score of 116.40, and St. Germain won the girls’ six-dive event with a score of 248.25.
MDI will be back at the Bangor Area YMCA to take on Bangor at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20.
