BAR HARBOR — The Mount Desert Island High School swimming team swamped its competition in its most recent meet against Orono High School on Jan. 18.
Aeisha Sargent from Orono was the only competitor to upset the otherwise dominant Trojan team. She won both the girls’ 100-yard butterfly event and the 100-yard breaststroke in times of 1:10.37 and 1:20, respectively.
In the 200-yard medley relay, the Lady Trojans placed teams in first and third places in times of 2:15.68 and 2:25.04. Rebecca Gerrish, Kirsten MiMauro, Amelia Kief, and Sydney Wright were on the winning MDI team.
MDI swimmer Kief also won the 200-yard freestyle event in a time of 2:15.95, beating the second place Orono swimmer, Mollie Burr, by nearly six seconds.
Trojan swimmer Thomas Gallup won the boys’ heat of that event in a time of 2:04.49. MDI swimmers Sam Jacobson and Kohl Shaw finished in second and third places in times of 2:17.67 and 2:17.88. The fourth place Orono swimmer, Jordan Guillaume, clocked a time of 2:40.84.
Erin Connery won the girls’ 200-yard individual medley race in a time of 2:27.35, or more than 20 seconds ahead of teammate Mary Ellen Sharp. Sharp finished the event in second place in a time of 2:49.23.
Madison Luck finished first in the boys’ heat of the individual medley in a time of 2:13.06. Kristoph Naggert placed second in a time of 2:27.48. Luck also placed second in the 100-yard freestyle event in a time of 53.60, behind teammate Ross Johnston who placed first in a time of 50.57.
James O’Neil placed third in the freestyle event for Orono in a time of 1:13.71.
Trojan Samantha Luck won the girls heat of the 100-yard freestyle event in a time of 1:03.04 in front of teammate Isabel Erickson. Erickson placed second in a time of 1:04.81.
MDI swimmers also won 500-yard freestyle events, the 200-yard freestyle relays, the 100-yard backstroke events, and the 400-yard freestyle relays. Xiao Quan from Orono won the boys’ 100-yard breaststroke; MDI competitor Yanni Roguski was disqualified from that event.
The MDI swimmers are scheduled to compete against rivals from Bangor High School on Jan. 25.
The MDI High School diving team competed against itself midway through the Jan. 18 meet. Bryce DiMauro finished with 130.9 points in six dives. Riley Heist scored 114.10; Sierra Bloom scored 80.50.
