Trojan softball falls to PI

BAR HARBOR — The Mount Desert Island High School varsity softball team fell to Presque Isle in a double-header at home on Saturday, April 30.

The Wildcats notched a 12-7 win in the first game, in which they added eight hits and seven runs in the first inning.

Maddie Thornton pitched the first game, striking out four. The Trojans had nine hits in the game.

Avalon Kerley added two singles for MDI, Thornton had a double, and Ali Bender and Aubrey Boyce each had a single.

The Trojans fought hard in the second game, taking a 2-0 lead in the second inning and held a 4-3 lead till the top of the seventh inning, but an error led to the score being tied.

The two teams went neck-and-neck for three more innings before the Wildcats notched two runs in the top of the 10th inning to take a 6-4 win.

MDI had four hits in the second game. Bender and Cassidy Parady each notched a double, while Kerley and Britney Corson each singled.

Lindsey McEachern pitched the entire game for the Trojans and struck out eight players.

Hermon 15 – MDI 0

The Trojan softball team fell 15-0 to the Hermon Hawks on the road on Thursday, April 28.

Thornton pitched the first three innings for MDI, while McEachern took the mound for the final two. The Hawks notched 13 singles and one double.

The Trojans managed six hits, with Bender adding two singles.

John Bapst 6 – MDI 5

At Bar Harbor, the Lady Trojans fought hard and displayed a strong defense, but were unable to match the John Bapst Crusaders and fell 6-5.

MDI took an early 3-1 lead, but multiple errors in the fifth inning slowed the team down.

Bender doubled for the Trojans, and Kerley singled, while Thornton had a bunt-single.

The Trojans are set to play Ellsworth High School on Thursday, May 5, and Foxcroft Academy on Saturday, May 7, and host Old Town High School on Tuesday, May 10, at 4:30 p.m.
