MDI handed first loss of the season

The MDI Trojans rallied with five seventh-inning runs to knot the score at 7-7, but the Old Town Coyotes came up with the game-winner in the bottom of the eighth inning in an 8-7 victory on Monday in Old Town.

The decisive run for the undefeated Coyotes came when Karah Hussey doubled and scored on a long single by Rachel Martin off MDI righthander Haley Littlefield.

MDI staked Littlefield to a 2-0 lead when O’Neil singled in the third and doubled in the fifth, scoring in both innings when Kerley hit into fielder’s choices.

Old Town took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth and added four more runs in the sixth.

But the Trojans battled back in the seventh.

O’Neil doubled for her fourth hit, Sierra Myrick singled and Molly Carroll and Kerley followed with run-scoring singles.

Ali Bierman reach on an error with Carroll scoring, and Kerley and Bierman scored on a two-run single by Deandra Kanu.

It was the first loss of the season for MDI.
