Lady Trojans down Bucks



BUCKSPORT — The Mount Desert Island High School varsity softball team defeated the Bucksport Golden Bucks Tuesday 9-7 in their first outdoor preseason matchup.

Senior Haley Littlefield pitched the first three innings for MDI, throwing 29 strikes and 5 balls. Aubrie Boyce and Maddie Thornton relieved her.

Littlefield also had the game’s first run. She was batted in by a Cassidy Parady double in the second inning. Riley Mooers got one run in the third and an RBI later in the game. Three runs in the fifth put the Trojans up 6-2, but the Bucks battled back. After seven innings, MDI led 9-4. Bucksport added three runs in the eighth but not enough to pull ahead.

Naraguagus 7 – MDI 2

MDI began preseason competition Saturday in the dome at the University of Maine in Orono, falling to Narraguagus 7-2. Narraguagus came out strong with four unanswered runs in the first. The second and third innings were scoreless. The score was 5-2 after four innings. Littlefield and Ali Bierman had the two runs for MDI, batted in by Alaina Duley and Darcy Kanu. Narraguagus added two runs in the final fifth inning for a 7-2 win.

The team heads next to South Portland for a preseason play day with games set for 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. MDI’s season opener is Thursday, April 23, at George Stevens Academy.
