BAR HARBOR — The Amateur Softball Association (ASA) is offering clinics for aspiring umpires this spring.
Maine ASA softball district umpires and chiefs will prepare this year’s veteran and prospective umpires. Umpires are wanted for all levels of softball throughout Maine, including Junior Olympics, modified and fast pitch, coed, men’s, women’s and senior division slow-pitch, and clinics will be held statewide on various dates and locations.
Participants will be taught how to call strikes and balls, fair and foul balls, safes and outs, the proper position on the field to make calls and how to properly handle players and coaches.
ASA runs competitions in every state through a network of 76 state and metro associations. It has a membership of more than 230,000 teams, with more than 3 million players and 35,000 umpires. Call Scott Tilton with Maine ASA at 807-3504 or email [email protected].
