BAR HARBOR — The Ice Fishing Derby to benefit the Conners Emerson School, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 27, has been cancelled due to unsafe ice conditions on area lakes and ponds.
Individuals who purchased a derby ticket will be entered in a drawing for an Ice Auger or the $500 cash prize.

Trojan girls top in sports
BAR HARBOR — The girls’ varsity basketball team of Mount Desert Island High School was named the winner of the Class B North Sportsmanship award. The Trojan team finished their season with a 17-1 record and will be presented with the banner for their achievement prior to the state girls’ basketball championship between Houlton and Gray-New Gloucester on Friday, Feb. 26, at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.
ORONO — Several Mount Desert Island High School indoor track and field athletes were named to the PVC/Eastern Maine Indoor Track League all-conference teams.
Ashley Anderson was named to the girls’ second team for the 55-meter, the 200-meter and the 400-meter dash. Mackenzie Hanna was on the second team as well for shot put. The MDI team of Lily Turner, Sydney Kachmar, Adriana Novella and Anderson was named for the 4×200-meter relay team.
For the boys, Ryan Bender made first team in the 55-meter and the 400-meter dash and second team in the 200-meter dash and long jump. Croix Albee was named on the second team in shot put.
BAR HARBOR — A number of athletes from Mount Desert Island High School have been named to the PVC All Star and All Academic swim and dive teams.
Pierce DiMauro was named for the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle on the boys’ All Star teams. Liam Sullivan made it to the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard breaststroke. In 1-meter diving, Bryce DiMauro was named.
On the girls’ side, Lydia DaCorte was named for the 200-yard freestyle and also was named the PVC girls’ swimmer of the year. Eliza Schleif was named for the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle. Lydia DaCorte was named for the 100-yard butterfly. In 1-meter diving, Chelsea Schroeder was named.
MDI Coach Tony DeMuro was named PVC girls’ swim coach of the year.
All Academic team members include Kirstin DiMauro, Pierce DiMauro and Kristoph Naggert.
Former Trojan diving champ
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Will Greene, a resident of Bar Harbor and a freshman at Middlebury College in Vermont, placed fifth in 1-meter and 3-meter diving events at the NESCAC swimming and diving championships at Williams College recently.
He is the son of Bo Greene and the late Craig Greene of Bar Harbor.
Vaulting demo set
BAR HARBOR — An equestrian vaulting and barrel demonstration and workshop is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 28, from 1-3 p.m. at the Mount Desert Island YMCA. The workshop is available free of cost for ages four to 18.
