Athlete of the Week: Brandon Marsh

The Mount Desert High School boys’ soccer team won its first-ever game under head coach Max Mason Sept. 3 thanks in large part to the two goals netted by senior Brandon Marsh. The Trojans triumphed over the Old Town Coyotes 4-2 on the road.

MDI golf

BAR HARBOR — The Trojans continue to dominate out on the golf course, heading into the weekend with a 9-1 record after finishing first in their previous two matches.

On Sept. 1, Mount Desert Island (189) beat both Ellsworth (214) and Hermon (222). Junior Caden Braun was the medalist with a score of 42 while fellow junior Kasch Warner shot a 44. Then, in a home match at Kebo Golf Club on Sept. 6, MDI shot a 184 as a team, beating both Hampden (189) and Houlton (207).

Braun and Warner again led the way, shooting a 40 and a 46 respectively, but Joey Wellman-Clouse made a play for the top spot, shooting a 47 for the round.

Coach Bryan Maurais says the 9-1 record is only possible because of efforts from players like Wellman-Clouse. “Caden and Kasch have been consistent, but our third and fourth scorers have been different every match, which is a testament to our kids’ belief in themselves and our chemistry as a team,” Maurais said. “We need everyone, and everyone tends to step up when needed.”
