MDI indoor track
BREWER — Mount Desert Island indoor track team members competed last week in the second meet of the 2021 season.
Last Thursday, MDI’s throwers faced Brewer High School at home to compete in the shot put. Senior Archer Hill won the boys’ competition of 42 feet, 2 3/4 inches, and Logan Closson placed seventh of 25 competitors in the girls’ event with a distance of 27 feet, 7 3/4 inches.
MDI’s jumpers traveled to Brewer on Friday to compete in the high jump. Delaney Sweeney cleared 4 feet to place 10th of 22 in the girls’ field, and Miles Burr cleared 4 feet, 10 inches in the boys’ event to place 14th.
MDI runners took to the outdoor track Friday to compete in the 1-mile run. Jon Genrich finished in 5 minutes, 30.24 seconds to place seventh of 18 in the girls’ event, and Cassidy Hanscom finished in 7:39.24 to place 10th for the girls’ team.
MDI’s throwers and jumpers will compete at Brewer at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. today, Feb. 11, and tomorrow, Feb. 12, respectively. The distance runners will compete at a yet-to-be-determined time.
Free fishing weekend
BAR HARBOR— Interested in trying ice fishing for the first time or has it been a while since you set a trap?
Free Fishing License Week, February 13-21, allows everyone a chance to try ice fishing. On these days, any person (except those whose license has been suspended or revoked) who registers with the Department of Island Fisheries and Wildlife may fish without a license. All other laws and regulations apply on these days. Nonresidents and residents may participate.

Those ages 15 and younger do not need to register.
