LAMOINE — Louie Luchini of Ellsworth was first across the line Saturday in the tenth annual Flattop 5k, the beginning of the busy road race season in the area and of the Jack Russell’s Steakhouse Point Series for Eden Athletics running club. A field of 272 runners, ages 6 to 78, competed.
Luchini’s winning time this year was 16:41. He set the course record in 2010 with his time of 14:58. Close on his heels were Matt Homich and Andrew Kephart, both of Ellsworth, with 16:54 and 17:17 respectively.
Sarah Mulcahy of Baring Plantation was this year’s female champion, coming in at 18:47. She was the third-place woman in the 2014 MDI Marathon.
Jennifer VanDongen of Bar Harbor, 2013 and 2014 Flattop champion, was female runner up and first MDI finisher of either gender with a time of 19:21.
