Golf team is 4th at states



VASSALBORO — The Mount Desert Island High School varsity golf team placed fourth in the Class B State Championships held at Natanis Golf Course on Saturday, Oct. 10, with a total team score of 350.

“We were only three strokes out of third place,” said Coach Wilton Jones. “This was a 12-stroke improvement over our team score of 362 in the PVC regional.”

The Trojan golf team also won the Sportsmanship Award for Class B.

Senior Kyle Lamson shot 85 at the team match. Kyle Nicholson shot 86, and juniors Riley Swanson and Aaron Snurkowski shot 88 and 91 respectively.

Also competing in the team match was Seth Clark with a score of 92.

Three Trojan golfers, Clark, Lamson and Delaney Smith, have qualified for the Maine Individual Championships set for Saturday, Oct. 17, also at Natanis.

Delaney finished second in Class B Girls during the PVC Championships on shooting a 93.

The MDI golf team placed third in PVC Championship last year and 10th in the state team championship.
