Four golf tourney fundraisers slated on September calendar

ELLSWORTH — Area golfers can choose to participate in any or all of four tournaments to support Hancock County organizations in September.

Friends in Action

First on the calendar is the third annual Friends in Action Golf Tournament planned Tuesday, Sept. 9, at the Kebo Valley Golf Club in Bar Harbor.

The registration fee is $80 per person ($320 per foursome) and the fee covers tournament play, greens fee, a cart and dinner.

Same day registration will begin at 11 a.m. and the tournament, in a scramble format, will begin at noon.

Finelli’s Pizza of Ellsworth will sponsor a putting contest, and Bar Harbor Bank & Trust will sponsor a long drive contest.

Darling’s Chevrolet and Darling’s Auto Mall of Ellsworth is the lead sponsor, and the post-tournament dinner  at 4 p.m. will sponsored by Machias Savings Bank.

The dinner will feature a silent auction, followed by a live auction.

Friends in Action is a nonprofit organization of nearly 200 volunteers proving free services to elderly and disabled residents of Hancock County and coordinating a senior center.

Brennen Lowe Memorial

The annual Brennen Lowe Memorial Golf Tournament will be held Sunday, Sept. 14, at 8:30 a.m. at the Causeway Club in Southwest Harbor.

Organized by the Harbor House Community Center, the tournament is in memory of a boy who lost his life to cancer several years ago.

The tournament is a scramble format with an entry fee of $75 per person and pre-registration is encouraged.

Birch Bay Retirement Village

Birch Bay Retirement Village will hold a golf outing fundraiser on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at the Kebo Valley Golf Club.

The 18-hole, scramble format event will get under way with a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start.

The registration fee of $90 per player covers a golf cart, snacks and an evening barbecue.

Stanley Subaru of Ellsworth will sponsor a hole-in-one contest.


The Bucksport Bay Area Chamber of Commerce will hold “Golftoberfest,” an 18-hole tournament at the Searsport Pines Golf Course on Friday, Sept. 26.

Registration begins at noon with a shotgun start scheduled for 1 p.m.

The public is invited to join in Oktoberfest, featuring bratwurst, beer and other German food choices, starting at 2 p.m.

Pre-registrations for the tournament will be accepted by the chamber until Sept. 23.

The registration fee is $85 per player or $300 for a team of four, and covers prizes, food, greens fees and a golf cart.
