MDI High Trojans tame Bulldogs in opener

BAR HARBOR — The Mount Desert Island High School varsity football team beat the Madison High School Bulldogs 20-14 in their opening game of the season Friday.

MDI starting quarterback, senior Jon Phelps, took a hit at the end of the third quarter and injured his hip, but he was standing with his teammates on the sideline by the end of the game, albeit ice bag in hand. Sophomore Colby Candage stepped in during the interim.

The Trojans will host Hermon High School on Sept. 13, and travel to Winslow Sept. 21.
