MDI High to take on Ellsworth in football

BAR HARBOR — The Mount Desert Island High School Trojans will face Ellsworth-Sumner in an exhibition preseason game Friday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. in Ellsworth.

The football program is a varsity sport at Ellsworth this year, but the team will not be eligible to participate in post-season play. The football program must raise most of its own budget. Ellsworth-Sumner plays in the Class C league.

“We’re excited that we have the chance to play them, and I know they are too,” MDI Head Coach Mark Shields said. The schools rarely get to play, except at the JV level. “Their coach, Duane Crawford, coached under me for awhile here. It’s a good opportunity for the two programs to see one another. It’s gonna be fun.”
