Snow storms bury schedule

BAR HARBOR — The storms that closed school and left so much snow on Mount Desert Island this week have resulted in lots of changes to the MDI High School athletics schedule as winter sport championship season nears.

The last few varsity girls’ basketball games had to be rescheduled several times to avoid storms and school closures. The Lady Trojans are set to travel to the Cross Center to play John Bapst Thursday, Feb. 5, for a 4 p.m. game, then to Blue Hill Friday to take on George Stevens Academy Friday at 7 p.m.

The swim and dive team had a home meet against John Bapst and a diving meet at Husson University cancelled last week. They’re looking ahead to PVC meets this week at Husson. The girls’ meet is set for Friday at 6 p.m. and the boys for Saturday at noon.

The track and field team was able to get to the University of Maine field house for practice, but their final league meet of the season Jan. 31 was cancelled. The PVC/Eastern Maine Indoor Track League Championship meet is set for Saturday at 3 p.m.

The PVC wrestling meet scheduled for Jan. 31 at Mattanawcook Academy was cancelled. At press time, coaches and the MPA wrestling committee had not yet decided whether to reschedule, according to MA athletic director Dean Libbey.

The Eastern Maine wrestling meet is set for Saturday at Medomak Valley, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Individual scores at the regional meet determine eligibility for the state competition the following week.
