Lakers formidable opponent for MDI

BANGOR — The Lady Lakers of Lake Region High School, who will face the Mount Desert Island Lady Trojans Friday in the state championship game, entered the tournament top seed in Class B West.

The Lakers’ one loss in their 17-1 season was back in December, at Wells High School. They avenged that loss Saturday in the Western Maine championship game, beating Wells 59-51.

Lake Region’s girls have not won a state Class B title since 1975, but they were Western Maine Champions between 2006-2008, and every year from 2012 to the present. In each of the last two tournaments they lost the championship game to Presque Isle. In 2012 they lost by only two points, 49-47. The final score of the 2013 championship game was Presque Isle 51 – Lake Region 44.

Lake Region High School is located in Naples and serves the towns of Bridgton, Casco, Naples, and Sebago.
