BAR HARBOR — The Mount Desert Island High School indoor track team competed at the Eastern Maine Track League Large-School championships Saturday at the University of Maine and came away with state championships in two events. As a team, the MDI girls placed fourth with 46 points. The boys took sixth with 23 points.
The Trojans started the day with a title as the team of Grace Munger, Katelyn Osborne, Olivia Johnson and Zoe Olson won the 4-by-800 relay. The quartet posted a time of 10 minutes, 31.2 seconds to beat out Hampden Academy for first place.
Olson later added an individual state title when she won 800-meter run in 2:22.72. Her time was 0.9 seconds faster than the second-place finisher, Hampden’s Helen Shearer.
On the boys’ side, junior Elijah Denning took third place in the pole vault by clearing a distance of 11 feet, 6 inches. Senior Gilbert Isaacs placed second in the shot put with a distance of 47 feet, 10 1/2 inches.
