Olson, Isaacs, relay team win state track titles

LEWISTON — Mount Desert Island High School indoor track team members Zoe Olson and Gilbert Isaacs won individual state titles at Saturday’s Class B championships at Bates College. The Trojans also claimed a title in the 4×800-meter relay.

Competing in the 800-meter run, Olson finished with a time of 2:27.94 to place first out of 18 runners. She beat out Olivia Tiner of Winslow by 1.29 seconds.

Isaacs was state champion in the shot put with a distance of 47 feet 7 3/4 inches. His distance was 10.25 inches better than that of the second-place finisher, Lawrence’s Alex Higgins.

The MDI girls won the 4×800 relay with a time of 10:26.67. Olson teamed up with Grace Munger, Olivia Johnson and Katelyn Osborne to give the Trojans the win.

MDI placed sixth on 24 teams on the girls’ side with 24 points. The boys placed 15th of 30 teams with 10 points.

The 4×200-meter team was Emma Freudig, Zoe Olson, Grace Rodick and Marilyn Sawyer. The Islander apologizes for the error.
