New pro at Causeway Club

SOUTHWEST HARBOR — Kevin Perkins of Port St. Lucie, Fla., was named the director of golf operations at Southwest Harbor’s Causeway Club this week.

The 39-year golf veteran comes to Mount Desert Island by way of Stuart, Fla., home of his Kevin Perkins Golf Academy.

“I am very excited to be part of the Causeway Club and want to thank General Manager Susan Allen for being selected,” Perkins said in a statement. “I am really looking forward to the Mount Desert Island lifestyle this summer and serving the membership and community here.”

Perkins, a PGA master professional, has given over 45,000 golf lessons over the past 39 years. He played college golf at the University of Miami and has mentored successful PGA players such as two-time women’s U.S. Open winner JoAnne Carner and back-to-back St. Jude Classic winner Daniel Berger.

“It is such a great compliment to my wife, Denise, and our lifestyle to be able to summer here and get away to Florida and run our academy in the fall and winter months,” Perkins said.

In the press release, Perkins said he would bring private lessons and daily clinics to the Causeway Club. His goal is to provide “outstanding service, a fully stocked golf shop, great tournaments and fun activities and, most especially, world-class golf instruction.”
