MDI tennis teams defeat Hermon

BAR HARBOR – The Mount Desert Island High School varsity girls tennis team logged their fourth team win Friday, beating Hermon at home 5-0. The MDI boys pulled out a 3-2 victory for a 3-2 record so far on the season.

Sarah Phelps and Ivy Wallace won 8-0 at first and second singles. In the third singles slot, Maeve Geary won by default. MDI doubles teams Emily and Olivia McCarthy at first and Molly Corson and India Janes at second had 8-0 victories. Ashley McEachern and Delaney Smith played an exhibition doubles match, winning 8-0.

Boys’ play was much closer, with Luke Horton’s 8-2 win in first singles and both MDI doubles teams providing the points for the 3-2 team win. Hermon’s Eric Byers defeated Kaleb Payson 8-5 in a hard-fought match at second singles. Matt Allen of Hermon defeated Teddy Geary 8-4. The Trojan doubles teams Hunter Strauch-Drake Janes and Henry Helmke-Jimmy Carroll both won their matches 8-1. Avery LaValle and Hayden Goodwin won a short exhibition match 4-2.
