MDI tennis splits with GSA

BLUE HILL – The Mount Desert Island High School varsity girls tennis team defeated the George Stevens girls Thursday 5-0, improving to 6-1 on the season. The GSA boys took 3 matches to the Trojans’ 2 to remain undefeated on the season. The MDI boys are 4-3 on the season.

Sarah Phelps defeated Sophia Chen 8-6 in first singles. Ivy Wallace won her second singles match 8-5 and Maeve Geary won 8-1 at third singles. Emily McCarthy and Molly Corson won a close 8-6 match at first doubles. India Janes and Ellie Bridges won 8-3.

For the MDI boys, wins at first singles and first doubles were not enough for a victory against the very skilled Eagles. Luke Horton won 8-0. Kaleb Payson and Teddy Geary fell 8-5 in second and third singles, respectively. Hamish Stevenson and Drake Janes won a long, close match 9-7. Jimmy Carroll and Henry Helmke fell 8-2.
