MDI swim team earns sweep of John Bapst

BAR HARBOR — The Mount Desert Island swim team rang in the new year in dominant fashion Friday with a sweep of John Bapst at the MDI YMCA.

On the boys’ side, MDI earned a 137-34 victory over the Crusaders. The Trojans earned wins in every single event.

Liam Sullivan (200-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly) and Ponce Saltysiak (50-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke) won multiple individual events for the Trojans. Amos Price (100-yard backstroke), Tyler Woodworth (500-yard freestyle), Sam Mitchell (1-meter dive), Tyler Willis (100-yard freestyle) and Isaac Weaver (200-yard individual medley) also won individual events.

The MDI girls defeated John Bapst by a score of 110-71. The team earned wins in the 200-yard medley and freestyle relays as well as the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Ruby Brown earned two individual wins for MDI with triumphs in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke. Mei Mei White (100 backstroke), Adria Horton (100 fly), Addy Smith (100 freestyle) and Maria Saltysiak (200 freestyle) also earned wins for the girls’ team.

MDI’s next meet will be at home against Ellsworth at 6 p.m. tomorrow, Jan. 11.

“We are really looking forward to a spirited meet against Ellsworth,” head coach Tony DeMuro said. “It should be a lot of fast and competitive racing and a lot of fun to watch.”
