MDI represents at Bridge the Gap

VERONA ISLAND — Mount Desert Island runners were among the contestants at Saturday’s Bridge the Gap Road Race, organized by Crow Athletics, which includes a crossing of the Penobscot Narrows Bridge. The 10-mile race includes a loop around Verona Island before finishing in Bucksport. The 3-mile course crosses the bridge and heads straight for Bucksport, finishing along the waterfront.

Bar Harbor runners included Judson Cake, who finished the 10-mile run in 55 minutes, 23 seconds to claim second overall, and 11-year-old Amelia Van Dongen, also of Bar Harbor, finished 23rd overall in the three-miler with her time of 24:31.

Chris Heel, who’s gearing up for the annual Sea of Blue walk and road race he directs April 30 in Northeast Harbor, was 10th in the 3-miler with 22:32.
