BAR HARBOR — Mount Desert Island High School will be competing against the same teams in the Class C North football standings in the coming years after the Maine Principals’ Association kept the same 11 teams in the classification.
Under the old agreement, MDI would have been the largest school in Class C North, which would have included schools with enrollments of 420-555. The new Class C guidelines expand that range to 420-599, which keeps defending state champion Nokomis (583) and Medomak Valley (559) in the classification.
MDI’s enrollment figure is rising from 526 to 531 for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 sports seasons. In addition to the aforementioned teams, the Trojans will be joined in Class C North by Belfast, Hermon, John Bapst, Maine Central Institute, Oceanside, Old Town, Waterville and Winslow.
